My week in the Hudson Valley greenery and villages recharged my soul and spirit… after I crashed. And I came up with a new acronym to keep me healthy, 3D time. Those of you who know me, know how much I love acronyms 😄. Read on dear traveler.
The Plan: I had planned to visit several towns, do yoga, meditation, & journaling every morning, hike each afternoon, catch up on reading and planning my life. It was gonna be a NYC-style, chocked-full, productive yet somehow relaxing time .
The Reality: Then two days in came the migraine…and I was forcefully reminded that the primary goal for this trip was forest bathing and 3D time (my decompress, detox, and discern). I spent the day on the porch swing, looking at the mountains and trees, nursing my coffee (& my migraine), napping, and realized the rest could happen in other visits. After all, I don’t actually need to be “one and done” when visiting a lovely and historic area. I didn’t need to check off daily visits to new towns, exercise, house-hunting, resting, and spiritual healing activities. The rest of the time was great, relaxing, low key, and full of 3D,… and I got to visit this magical place, Opus40.
The Gift: Julia Cameron writes in The Artists Way of the importance of “artist dates” to keep our creativity flowing. Artist Harvey Fite’s home and studio, Opus 40, is in a converted stone quarry. It is full of massive statues, incredible stonework walls, both around/ creating the ponds and statues, and along the wooded paths, to keep us off the protected & delicate ecosystem land. I’m reminded of Robert Frost’s poem about mending country walls, and his neighbor’s comment about good walls making good neighbors (link here).
What a labor of love, and what a lovely place to spend the day, learn about his art, see his tools, marvel at his work, enjoy a wooded walk, have a picnic, listen to a concert. I will be back again. #artistdate#hudsonvalley#opus40#harveyfite#robertfrost#restandrecharge#experiencetoresilience#resilience @officialopus40 @e2resilience
p.s. And I’m happy to report, that after this break and artist date, I shifted from being a human doing to a human being, back to tapping into my intuition, and my mind has had a flow of creative, can-do ideas and attitude — amazing what a break, some nature and some inspiration can do.
