The pandemic hit hard, shut us into our homes… and then we started doing the nightly clapping. And the tradition made it to my neighborhood by early April. Then came the first city-wide sing-along. And I did something that would have embarassed my teen or 20-something self, tuned in to FB live to synchronize with others around the city, and belted it out as best I could. And people joined in!!
I love the surprise that people feel and the pause that they take. I love the power music has to grab our heart and make us cry or laugh or remember, and I love the power it has to bring people together.
p.s. (May 20) I come back to this video and it makes me so happy. And I get strength from my earlier abandon and from hearing the others joining in! I did actually do that!
